Prof Seeram Ramakrishna

Vice President (Research Strategy) and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore

A Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering, Seeram Ramakrishna received his Ph.D in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Cambridge and General Management training from Harvard University. Besides his role as the Vice President (Research Strategy) at the National University of Singapore, he serves on the boards of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade & Industry, the Ministry of Education and DSO National Laboratories of the Ministry of Defence in Singapore. He is also the founding co-director of the NUS Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Initiative (NUSNNI) established since 2002.

He is known globally for his pioneering work on engineering nanofibers for regeneration of tissues and harvesting of sunlight. The ISI Essential Science Indicators (ESI) places him among the top one hundred materials scientists in the world based on citations and two of his inventions have been successfully commercialized.
