FiberCell, Inc., has developed a technology to manufacture a unique geometry of polymer-based, highly efficient organic photovoltaic devices. Instead of the usual flat light-absorbing surface, FiberCell curls up the absorbing surface into individual fibers, arranging them like small tin cans in a crate; working in unison to produce a larger collection area. The fibers are also designed to trap incident light to maximize the amount of light absorbed. This revolutionary design will increase both the conversion efficiency and the amount of solar energy generated by conventional solar cells.
