PureLux is developing a new form of general illumination using nano-composite polymer films produce visible light directly rather than as a byproduct of heating a filament or gas. This technology has been verified to be 3x more efficient than fluorescent lighting technology and 10x more efficient than incandescent technology. The Purelux lighting device is a thin-film device that can be custom-tailored to produce light of different color and is cool to the touch, eliminating the additional air conditioning expense required to remove the waste heat generated by conventional lighting. The Purelux device is easy to retrofit and plug-compatible with standard AC power and it is thin and very flexible, offering creative opportunities for architects and lighting designers.
